First I have to tell you that she is a very sociable woman and will strike up a conversation with anyone. Hal is like this too. I often marvel at the conversations they can get into at the grocery store or wherever. I'm just not that open with strangers. I love watching them as they do this ... The thought of striking up a conversation just never occured to me. Hal got in trouble once when we were sitting in a movie theater and I was just a few months pregnant. We were with some friends but Hal was sitting next to a stranger who wasn't part of our group. He had told me that we shouldn't tell friends or family before 3 months, which was hard for me to do because I am very close to my extended family. After all this he strikes up a conversation with the woman next to him and tells her that I'm pregnant with our first child. She immediately leans over to congratulate me and Hal is trying to shush her so that he can explain that our friends on the other side of me don't know. (That man!) But I've digressed. Back to my mother-in-law. She has decided that she doesn't want to duplicate any of the fabrics in the Cathedral Window quilt. So she has been buying fabric and more fabric. She has gotten a reputation at the local JoAnn's because she threatens the ladies who cut the fabric for her that if they don't watch out they might find their skirt 2 inches shorter because she has her scissors and she needs 2 inch scraps for the quilt. :> I believe all of the fabric retailers now about this Cathedral quilt we are making now. Many people are interested and keep asking to see it. Well this time Mom Darby managed to get into a conversation that turned into a gold mine. Turns out the lady cutting her fabric this time used to sell fabric herself and she has a bunch of 2 inch scraps she'd be willing to give Mom D. Another lady in the store was interested in trading scraps with her. So we are well on our way to achieving Mom D's goal of not repeating any fabric. :>
That reminds me though. I've been telling her about my blog and the group of bloggers I've found online. She wanted to know if you would be interested in trading scraps. She has a lot of the fabric we have already cut 2 inches from and would be willing to trade. If you are interested in swapping scraps send me an email.
I love your mother in law, too. Of course, she's my mother, so go figure.I will attest to the fact that I could start up a conversation anywhere at any time. I've even managed to chat up people while on travel in Korea who only spoke Korean (and I certainly do not). There was a lot of pointing and hand waving but we got the basics down.Oh, and my recollection of the "movie incident" is slightly different but just as embarassing.
